THE INSTITUTION — The International Institute for Restorative Practices is a new, innovative Graduate School in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Authorized by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2006 as a private, independent, stand-alone institution, the IIRP currently offers two master’s degrees: Master of Restorative Practices and Education and Master of Restorative Practices and Youth Counseling. The Graduate School is located in the Lehigh Valley in Bethlehem’s historic preservation district, 90 minutes from Philadelphia and New York City. While the Graduate School is new, it has grown out of two remarkably effective youth-serving agencies that have served delinquent and at-risk youth in southeastern Pennsylvania for 30 years. The IIRP has an established training and consulting division that has worked with tens of thousands of professionals from all 50 states and 40 countries since 1995 and has affiliates and licensees in 12 countries.

Restorative practices is an emerging transdisciplinary field of study that enables people to restore and build community in an increasingly disconnected world. It has been successfully employed by the IIRP’s own demonstration programs for youth, as well as in many other school, criminal justice, children-and-youth-serving and workplace environments.

THE POSITION

• A twelve-month appointment on a non-traditional schedule with vacation time throughout the year.
• A class schedule for adult learners; many weekends during peak periods; many free weekdays.
• The faculty title of Professor.
• The responsibility for teaching a broad range of courses in Education and introductory Restorative Practices at the master’s level.
• The active advising of graduate students.
• The active development of education curricula.
• Initial appointment: January 2008.

N.B. We recognize that neither our new Graduate School nor our new discipline will be well
known to many of the best Education professionals we wish to attract. Therefore we are willing
to invest in success, hiring in January a person whom we will orient to Restorative Practices
and introduce to our program and graduate courses during the Spring Term 2008, before that
person first teaches in Summer 2008.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

• Will possess an Ed.D. or a Ph.D. in Education;
• Will preferably be an experienced teacher, open to new ideas;
• Will preferably have had some K-12 teaching or administrative experience;
• Will be committed to teaching, then also to research and service;
• Will be genuinely collegial and supportive of collaborative group processes.

THE APPLICATION PROCESS — This position will begin in January 2008.

2. Write a focused, two-page letter of application, outlining your experience and relating it
   directly to your interest in a professorship on our faculty, taking into account what you
   read on our website. Please do not respond with a form letter.
